Have you ever heard the story “you won’t get fired if you
buy from General Electric, Microsoft, HP" and the list goes on…you
know who they are. It can be any big company that is a recognized household
name. But have you heard the other side of the story? The story of how
managers become heroes.
Wes, a middle level manager of a Fortune 500 company, had a problem.
The company he worked for was publishing construction drawings on microfilm
and needed a way for their customers to view the drawings at full size
so that the customer could use the information in the same way they would
a paper copy. He had a list of needs that would make the product his company
was publishing successful with its customers. Wes took these requirements
to all the industry giants, the household names that you would recognize.
They all had the same answer. “We can provide our standard product
model XYZ.” The problem for Wes was that ”Model XYZ”
did not provide the solution his customers needed.
Wes, being a good manager, continued to network and eventually came in
contact with Tameran. Tameran’s founder, David Wise, listened carefully
as Wes explained the unique requirements of his company and their customers.
It was quickly apparent that in order to meet Wes’s requirements
a creative and very practical solution would be needed.
A few weeks later Tameran proposed an innovative solution that would
address the very important requirements of Wes and his customers. Wes
was thrilled. He couldn't wait to get started. But there was one problem.
Tameran was not a household name and, even worse, Tameran was a startup
company. Wes confessed to David, “Tameran’s proposal is exactly
what we need but I have a problem. Tameran is a startup company and you
are the chief designer…what if you get run over crossing the street
before the product is completed?”
David looked at Wes and said, “Wes, I know we can provide the product
you need to make your program successful and I promise you I will not
cross the street until the project is done.”
Tameran got the business and over the next 10 years provided over 8,000
viewers to Wes’ company. In fact, the project was so successful
for Wes’s company, its customers and for Tameran that the product
became known as “The Incredible Money Machine.”
At his company, Wes became a hero. And that is what Tameran is about.
We are about listening to the requirements of our prospective customers
with regard to the processing, distribution and preservation of their
drawings and documents. We are about using our expertise to provide innovative
real world solutions for those requirements that result in success for
our customers. And we are about doing whatever it takes to make sure the
responsible executive, administrator or manager is viewed as a hero to
his or her organization. Based on these core values, Tameran uses the
ever-changing advancement in technology to provide the fuel to fulfill
future opportunities.
While Wes may have been Tameran’s first hero, he was certainly
not the last. Tameran has continued to make heroes for over 30 years and,
although technology and solutions are ever-changing, we continue to look
for opportunities to make new heroes.
What happened to Wes? He became president of his company. And that …is
the other side of the story!
